Artist Biography

Shen Mo was born in Yi’an County in Fujian Province in 1938. Having graduated from the Xiamen Arts and Crafts College in 1960, he stayed there as a teacher. He then migrated to Hong Kong in 1974 and now he is a tutor for Chinese painting in the School of Continuing and Professional Studies of the Chinese University of Hong Kong, deputy professor of Huaqiao University, committee member of Chinese Painting Society, Committee member of the World Peace Calligraphy and Drawing Art Committee, as well as vice president of Fujian (Hong Kong) Calligraphy and Painting Institution.


Major Art Activities

In 1964, he studied traditional Chinese ink painting under the teaching of renowned painter Li Geng at Li Geng Chinese painting institute.
In 1965, New Year painting Red Leaves throughout the Mountain was published in Fujian People's Publishing House.
In 1994, he held exhibition in exhibition hall at Joint Publishing (H.K)
In 1996, painting Mangrove Blossomed in Early Morning with Dew was selected for the “Hong Kong Art Biennial Exhibition of 1996”.
In 1999, two artworks were selected for the “9th National Art Exhibition”. 1. Lohan Figure – seven-volume, 2. National Celebration for the 50th Anniversary and won the Outstanding Award. In the same year, he held the solo exhibition in “Kwang Hwa Information and Culture Center” in Hong Kong.
In 2001, he went to Montreal, Canada for travelling and sketching, he painted a large number of sketches.
In 2004, his work Splendid Autumn received the “Outstanding Award” of the “CCTV 2004 Grand Exhibition”. In the same year, he was invited to participate in the “Grand Exhibition organized by Chinese Painting Magazine”. The selected paintings have been published in art book.
In 2005, he was invited by Guangxi Literature Union and Art Publisher to investigate in Guangxi and participate in their exhibition.
In 2006, his work was selected in “Exhibition of Selected Works by Contemporary Chinese Masters”.
In 2007, he was invited to take part in the “Celebrative Exhibition of Hong Kong’s Return to China” and also “Exhibition of Outstanding Fujian Artists”. His other winning works include Walk in Secluded Garden.
In 2008, he was invited to participate in the “New Expression of Asian Art Exhibition”.
In 2009, he participated in “Chinese Painting Invitation Exhibition in Fujian, Hong Kong, Taiwan, Macau” and was invited to investigate in Fujian, Guizhou and participate in their exhibition.
In 2010, he is invited to participate in “HONG KONG INK 2010” organized by Baoqu Tang Gallery of Art.
His works have been widely published in newspapers and magazines in Hong Kong and China, and collected by the collectors both local and overseas. A number of art albums have also been published.
