Artist Biography

Lam Wu Fui was born in Guangdong in 1945. He is currently a member of the China Artists' Association. After having graduated from an art academy, Lam became pupil of the renowned masters Liang BoYu and Chao Shao An. He developed a poetic personal style in paintings of flowers, birds, fish, insects and wild beasts, enriching these traditional themes with liveliness and freshness, spiritual essence of the Lingnan School. He has held solo exhibitions in Hong Kong, Mainland China, Taiwan, Singapore, Malaysia, Japan, Korea, New Zealand, England, Germany, America and Canada since 1978, and his works are collected by museums of these countries.

Lam has also been invited to join art exhibitions and awarded various prizes. Among others are the National Capital Area Chapter Award, Juror's Award and Best of Show Award granted to him in 1991, 1992 and 1995 respectively in the “26th, 27th and 32nd Annual Exhibitions of the Sumi-e Society of America”; Merit Award in “Annual Members' Show” of the New Jersey Center for Visual Arts in New York in 1992 and 1994; the Schmincke/Cosmos Brush Award in “Mid-Atlantic Regional Watercolor Exhibition” in Baltimore and Honorable Mention in the “Ninth International Exhibition on Animals in Art” in Louisiana State University in 1996; and last but not least, his work Black Leopard won the Excellence Award in the “2007 Calligraphy and Painting Exhibition of Contemporary Chinese Writers” in China.

His published works include: Drawing Goldfish and Carps (1988), Drawing Sea Fish and Tropical Fish (1989), Selected Works of Lam Wu Fui (2005) and Paintings of Lam Wu Fui (in 3 volumes, 1993, 1998 & 2006).
