Chau was born in 1962, Guangzhou, Guangdong Province. He was inspired by and learned Chinese painting from his father, Zhou Zhiyi, when he was a child. In 1983, he moved to Hong Kong and continued his advance study in Chinese painting under Professor Chao Shaoan (1905 - 1998), who is Chau’s grandfather and an internationally renowned Chinese painting master. Chau had received various awards, such as the First Prize of “Hong Kong Youth Cultural & Art Competitions – Chinese Paintings”, the Silver Prize of the “National Chinese Painting and Calligraphy Competition in Beijing”, and the Cultural Festival Special Prize awarded by the Ministry of Foreign Economics and Trade Affairs of China in 1984, 1995 and 1997 respectively. From 2001 to 2004, Chau has been invited as a visiting artist in a number of events sponsored by the Hong Kong government and private institutions, such as the Urban Renewal Authority, the Hong Kong Childhood Injury Prevention and Research Association and Invest HK to promote the awareness of foreign investments, community redevelopment and children’s safety in Hong Kong. In 2006, cooperating with the University of Indianapolis, U.S., Chau has published a bilingual guide Happy Brush for beginners of Chinese paintings. |
