KuKu Chai was born in Nanjing, China, started painting and published her works since a little girl. She graduated with first-class scores and B. A. degree from the Art College of the Nanjing Teachers University, and then worked as an art teacher for years. Currently, Chai is living in Hong Kong, the art teacher of the First Institute of Art and Design, and the School of Continuing and Professional Studies the Chinese University of Hong Kong. She also is a director of the Hong Kong Artists Association.

She held personal art exhibition in 1997; a joint exhibition at her and her Japanese- students' works in 1999; also a solo exhibition in 2005. Her works have been displayed in the Art Museum of China in Beijing; published by Art, Chinese Calligraphy and Painting, Ming Pao, Wen Hui Pao, etc; collected by the Hong Kong Government, several Japanese organizations, many local as well as oversea people .Her calligraphy work was shown on the “Sixth National Calligraphy Exhibition of China’ in 1995. In 1999 and 2004, her paintings Spring Mountains and Valley and Water won the Awards of Excellence of the Ninth “National Arts Exhibition of China” and the Tenth “National Arts Exhibition of China” respectively.
