Chan was born in Shunde, Guangdong province in 1929. Chan has been interested in painting as early as he was a child. He is a perfectionist and always pursues for the highest aesthetic standard. Recently, Chan visited the island Reunion and felt the immediate desire to express his emotions when faced with the savage landscapes of Reunion. The compositions, without organized lines, swirl around tortuous relieves, merging lavas, surging waterfalls, dense forests and the moving ocean. The paintings depict a vigorous energy in which the colours used reach their plenitude. You will be amazed, surprised and certainly touched by Chan's enthusiasm, sincerity and his marvelous creativity. Although Chan is now 79 years old, he has not stopped contemplating and painting. He has already held various solo exhibitions in China, Singapore, and Hong Kong. Chan's artworks are the real art with life that reveals Chan's quality of being a master.

Chan has emigrated from China to Madagascar since he was 10 years old. Due to his passionate at art, he has read numerous artbooks and visited those famous public and private museums and galleries in France. Thus, he is very much inspired and influenced by European arts; however Chan is still able to retain the best of Chinese aesthetic standard. Chan said, "…I paint neither for money nor for reputation…art should not be restrained. I paint whatever I like…" It shows that Chan is loyal to the highest standard of Chinese literati painting philosophy. Mr. Zhang Chaohui, a famous art critic, also admires Chan's art that Chan 's paintings have achieved the traditional Chinese aesthetic of 'one combination of human and nature' and 'the disappearance of both matter and self.' Zhang said, "Chan's abstract paintings actually similar to the traditional Chinese aesthetic of free style, which is a state between abstract and real…" For example: his artwork Mighty Current perfectly melts the elegant style of western art with the spiritual theme of Chinese art; thus allowing a vivid depiction of nature all over the canvas.

Chan is completely free in his art creation. He spreads his large size canvas on the ground so as to have the largest space to work with. He uses sticks, sponges or brushes. Although Chan spontaneously mixes his colours, his colours are daring, bright and are sharply contrasted. In addition, the use of various materials such as stone, sands, has increased the textural and natural feeling of Chan's paintings. The use of space and composition in Chan's paintings further add to his artworks the essence of nature. For example, Volcano 15, has transformed a scene of volcano eruption to a strong visual impact.
