Yan Fei Solo Exhibition
Exhibition Date: 25th Aug 2007 - 30th Sep 2007

Overview

Yan Fei, the oil painter from Beijing, is renowned for the controversies his works inspire. Are they breaking conventions, or simply ignoring logics? Perhaps pure realism is at work, or is it pure surrealism? And where is the fine soul behind soulless facades? Your bewildering questions will be answered when all is revealed at Yan Fei’s latest solo exhibition.

Yan Fei draws and paints people in such precision and details that bequeath the existence of the soul, no matter how removed it may once be from the actual being. He described, “I am enchanted by the beauty of the soul. All the ugly things are just temporary illusions.” He hardly describes the human side of these young girls, such as the characteristics of being young, bewildered and naive. They are more like the “maidens of heavenly mountain” who you can not find the trace of age on them or earthy hearts in them, and who will be young forever. To unveil the soul further, true and false beauties collide to create a disparity that pulls the observers ever closer to their searches for it. In telling the truth, Yan Fei chooses to express himself with a deliberation of falseness, the art of which has become archetypical Yan Fei.
